iPhone App Review: Action Method

With so many free to-do list applications available for mobile phones and desktop computers, wouldn't it be nice if there were a good one geared towards us creative types? I am a big fan of Scott Belsky's Behance.net; a very useful (and free) portfolio website for designers, illustrators, photographers, etc. I recently reviewed and recommended his new book, Making Ideas Happen.

The Action Method is both a desktop and iPhone App that complements the teachings of the book. It has seriously improved my efficiency and follow-through on projects ranging from blog posts to grocery lists. The App is easy to understand and helps you organize projects in a logical fashion and break them down into "Action Steps." It even helps you delegate Action Steps to others involved in your group projects.

I use both the desktop and mobile versions of the Action Method, because they automatically sync online, without having to connect your phone to your computer. There is also the "Offline" version which is a collection of notepad style to-do lists. Since I use the online version I don't need the notebook version.

The desktop and mobile versions of the Action Method Online are limited to 50 action steps and do not allow you to upload reference files. Once you sign up for a paid subscription, you are allowed unlimited action steps, references, backburners, discussions and events. You will also be able to upload files & attachments (up to 2 GB of space). Needless to say, I quickly hit my limit of action steps. But by this time I realized that the subscription price of $12/month or $99/year is well worth it. I would recommend first reading the Making Ideas Happen book to understand the methodology, then download the app to put your ideas into action.
